Data entered using this form are submitted to Somerset Environmental Records Centre (SERC). This is the main centre holding data on wildlife sightings, types of environments and geological information for Somerset.
What did you see
As you write the name of the wildlife in the box a dropdown menu will appear for you to select from.
If you don’t see the name you want please try again with a * in front of the name. e.g. *frog.
If you give this a go you will see all the species linked to the word. For example *frog will give you common frog, frogs and toads, frog bit etc. to choose from.
What if there is a number after the name?
If there is a number 2,3 or 4 after the wildlife’s name we would really like to confirm your sighting. In this case, if you are happy to do so, please leave your email when requested and we can contact you for further information.
Just enter the number you saw. Usually numbers of mobile animals like birds or mammals but sometimes it might be say 5 Orchids.
Please give us the location of your sighting. You can either enter a grid reference or search for a place using the map.
Zoom in on a location using the maps left-hand sidebar to increase the accuracy of the position you select. Then simply click on the place to select it and the grid reference will be inserted for you.

Any other comments
Let us know things that may be important that you could not tell us else where. Were there say ‘at least 20’ or ‘more than 20’ Were they showing particular behaviour? Pretty much anything you think might be useful for us to know.
When you have put in all the information press submitt for it to be saved. You will be sent back to the begining page of the form to enter any more things you might have seen.
You will see that some items have a padlock to the right. If you need to enter more than one sighting you can avoid entering the same information again.
